Day Flying Bat

Today we saw a bat flying around the house during the day. We often see them flying at night and they have been about regularly for a week now. This was the first time either of us had seen one in the day. I did a search on line and occasionally you can see them […]

Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre

There has been more sad news this week. The Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre organisers have announced they will no longer run it. In 2020 they ran a virtual Christmas Fayre. In 2021 Storm Arwen destroyed the stalls and everything that had already been set up in preparation over night, meaning again it was cancelled. They […]

Some Shrewsbury Events 2022

The Shropshire County Agricultural Show is on at the Greenhous West Mids Showground on the 28th May 2022. The Show is a family event. There are farm animals to see, bands playing, agricultural machinery to view and stalls trying to get you to part with your money. Rest your feet and wallet at the Main […]

Bullfinches

Walking Dillie on Onny Meadows I spotted two white bird bums flying away from me. I knew them to be Bullfinch rear ends, as they are a brilliant white. I watched until they settled on the ground to confirm a male and a female. The female having a pink grey front and the male having […]

Shropshire Way 80k Over for 2022

Well the Shropshire Way 80k is over for 2022. There was a fantastic turnout, with over 600 runners. The Shropshire Way 80k is a fundraising event for the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. This year they hope to develop further a wetland area and put in accessible hide for bird watching. The fast male runner on […]

We’re Good to Go

We’re Good to Go has come to an end. This scheme was set up to help reassure customers of holiday accommodation. We hope it has. I want to reassure past and future customers that we will always strive to keep our standards high. We will carry on with some of the measures we started because […]

Beguildy Heights

We drove up to the heights above Beguildy. Beguildy is on the border of England and Wales. It was a lovely drive through the Shropshire Hills along quiet country lanes. We saw a Red Kite feeding on a dead rabbit in the middle of the road and a sparrowhawk who flew across the path of […]

Welcoming Spring

Spring has been creeping up upon us for a few weeks now. First the snowdrops put up green shoots and then their snow white flowers bowed their heads to us. The catkins of the hazels waggled and their tiny red flowers emerged. Over the last two weeks I have seen the first butterflies and heard […]

Powis Castle Parkland

The sun has been shining brightly and the day time temperature has been in the high teens. Friends of mine decided to make the most of the good weather with a trip to Powis Castle. As they drove up to the car park they spotted some deer in the parkland and decided that a walk […]

Woods Brewery Closing

I am announcing that Woods Brewery at Winstanstow is closing. We often used Wood’s Shropshire Lad or Shropshire Lass as part of our welcome package. Ludlow Brewery have said they will continue to occasionally brew Shropshire Lad. It is sad to see the demise of a local business.
