It has been a cool, breezy day. Not particularly dull but cloudy with some drizzle. It has been rainy over night, much needed.
I was struck while walking by the breeze rattling the leaves in the trees. They are drying out as the sap returns to the roots of the trees.
The breeze was also bringing leaves down off the trees, I wanted to kick them around but there wasn’t enough to do that.
Flocks of goldfinches and long tailed tits and their hangers on were gathering together looking for food. There were two birds flying over who resembled wildfires but I wasn’t quite sure. I have seen them this early a few years ago.
The Heron was walking slowly along a couple of paths in front of me, looking for amphibians, before I got too close and, he or she, flew off on languid wings.
In the last few days I have seen the the kingfisher on Halford Meadow patrolling up and down the river Onny.
Starlings have been gathering in their preparations ready to fly to their chosen roost for this Autumn.
We have had our first Autumn frosts and misty mornings.
The sunrise and sunset are drawing in, lengthening the night and shortening the days.
I look forward to kicking through drifts of leaves and splashing through puddles.
Autumn is here with much to look forward to.
