The annual Shropshire Way 80K Festival 2024 will be held this year on Saturday 6th April. Hundreds of runners and walkers are expected to come to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre to participate in the event which showcases the food, history and landscape of the Shropshire Hills.
The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is operated by the Grow Cook Learn charity and the Shropshire Way 80K Festival is a major fundraising event for the charity. In 2024 the money raised will be used to support the delivery of the Discovery Centre’s education programme which teaches children from inner-city areas about how their food is grown, and an ongoing project to create a new wetland scrape area for bird conservation.
The 2024 Shropshire Way 80K Festival offers a choice of four events:
- the SW80K – 50 miles in 24 hours
- the Mammothon – a full-distance trail marathon with a generous 12-hour time limit
- the Half-Mammothon – 13 miles with a 6-hour limit
- the Tusker’s 10K – 6.5 miles in 4 hours
Further details and a link to entry details including entry fees can be found here.
The Grow Cook Learn charity is all about local food and so runners will be offered Shropshire’s famous Fidget Pies, a beef stew served in a barn high in the hills, local cheeses and sausages as well as our delicious home-made Bara Brith and also vegetarian alternatives.
