Wistanstow Foot Bridge opened on January 27th 2023.
I walked that way with a friend a couple of days before it opened. It was meant to be open in December 2022 and we had hoped to use the bridge and enjoy the views.
Finally on 1st February 2023 we achieved our walk using the foot bridge.
The views of the Shropshire Hills, from the top of the bridge are lovely.
The photograph below was taken from the foot bridge looking south towards Craven Arms railway station.
The Wistanstow Foot bridge is a first.
Providing a safe crossing over the Railway, at a difficult place.
It is a new design called FLOW, standing for:-
F- fibre reinforcement polymer,
L- low cost
O- optimised design
W- working bridge
It has been made to have lower carbon foot print and no impact on passenger services on the Railway.
The Flow bridge is half the weight of an old fashioned steel bridge, which reduces transportation and installation costs.
It can build off site before installing in place.
No concrete was used, and because it was built off site it reduces disruption to train traffic.
The Wistanstow Foot Bridge is a hit. We saw two other people using it and another person approaching it.
Other people I have spoken to have liked the experience and been happy that a solution has been found for this crossing.
Much better than walking down the A49.
