I have seen one of my favourite birds this week, a redwing.
They come over from colder climates at this time of year and are the smallest member of the thrush family.
They are usually in flocks but I saw a single one in the garden resting in one of our trees.
Another visitor this week was a nuthatch. It was on the ground rootling around in leaf litter. Not its usual place for finding food. They are usually seen on trees with their head downwards tapping away looking for seeds and nuts.
I think the nuthatch lives in our trees all year round and are more visible once the leaves are falling from the trees.
We have goldfinches around most years and today I saw three on one of our hazel trees.
The sparrows are busy arguing as always and the dunnocks are quietly going about their business mostly indifferent to the squabbling of their neighbours.
A little look at the bird life in our garden.
