Working in the garden today I have seen a Hummingbird Hawk Moth.
It was feeding on the valerian, hovering like a Hummingbird and putting its long tongue into the flowers to feed. Every few seconds moving onto the next flower.
I have not seen one in Shropshire before, although I used to see them in Suffolk all the time when I lived there, a long time ago now.
I suspect my learned friend on wildlife will tell me Hummingbird Hawk Moths as seen regularly.
According to my day flying moth book, it says in the right habitat you will probably Hummingbird Hawk Moths. Well I have.
I will have to plant some larval food plants to encourage them to possibly breed.
